Jean de LA FONTAINE's Contes de la Fontaine, reprinted from the 1795 Didot edition, augmented with a notice by Anatole de Montaiglon. Paris: A. Le Vasseur, 1891. 2 volumes, large quarto format (26 x 33 cm), featuring a frontispiece portrait of La Fontaine (etching by Martial), LXI-262 & 418 pp., and a frontispiece portrait of Fragonard (etching by Martial). Includes 100 full-page etchings after Jean-Honoré Fragonard's drawings and engravings, with tailpieces and vignettes. Bound in half-morocco with corners, gilt edges, slightly worn corners or rubbed, one detached board on the second volume (present, to be restored), occasional faint foxing.
