The Antique Bookshop is a rare book dealer based in Paris, located at 83 rue La Fayette, in the 9th arrondissement. Founded in 1995, it now offers over 30,000 ancient, rare, and collectible books, available for consultation online and shipped worldwide.
Visits are by appointment only. This approach, common in the rare book trade, allows us to prepare for your visit: we pull in advance the books that match your search rather than leaving you to browse shelves at random.

A collection of 30,000 volumes
Our catalogue spans the full range of bibliophilic fields, from the 16th to the 20th century. The most substantial holdings are as follows.
- Literature: first editions and fine copies, from 17th-century classics to 20th-century literature.
- History: from the Ancien Régime to the contemporary period, with a strong Napoleonic section.
- Travel and regional studies: illustrated accounts, local monographs, maps and views.
- Fine books and bindings: illustrated publishers’ bindings, period bindings, livres d’artistes.
- Manuscripts, inscriptions and photographs: autograph letters, signed presentations, documents.
- Science, technology and law, religion and philosophy, curiosities.
Each item is individually described, photographed and its condition specified. If you are looking for a particular title, searching the catalogue will give you a faster answer than a visit.
Visiting or buying remotely
Two ways to work with us, depending on your needs.
- In person, by appointment: let us know the fields or titles you are interested in, and we will arrange a time slot and prepare a selection. This is the best option for significant works, where examining the binding, paper and collation is important.
- Online: the entire catalogue is searchable and orderable on this site. Shipping within metropolitan France is free, with tracked parcels and reinforced packaging, and we ship worldwide.
Having your rare books appraised or sold in Paris
We regularly purchase libraries in Paris and the Île-de-France region, as well as individual volumes.
- Send us photographs: a view of the shelves for the collection, then title pages and bindings of the volumes you believe to be the oldest.
- We respond within 4 business days with a first estimate, free of charge and without obligation.
- For a significant collection, we travel to Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France region at our own expense for a full examination and a firm offer.
A remark drawn from our experience: in Parisian apartments, libraries assembled between 1880 and 1930 often focus their interest on a few dozen volumes, the rest having more documentary than commercial value. Professional sorting avoids selling the entire collection at a standard price.
