Description

GRILLE (François). (Angers 1782–Étang-la-Ville 1853). Le bric-à-brac, with its annotated catalog. Paris, Ledoyen, 1853. 12mo, half-leather binding, worn corners and spine ends, some foxing, 384 and 320 pages. Collection of articles and pamphlets on various personalities: Constant, Mercœur, Turgot, Maurepas, Princess of Conti, etc. A malicious and tireless writer, an irreverent journalist, the Angers-born François Grille demonstrated throughout his life a genuine passion for public service. His various careers within the administration were interrupted due to positions that opposed the ruling power. His political and literary work was sustained by a thirst for social justice and the pursuit of moderate humanism, which led to his fourth and final dismissal. (Claudie Gohier Segretain). Pleasant copy.
