Charles Henri Georges Pouchet (1833-1894), French naturalist and anatomist, son of naturalist Félix Archimède Pouchet. Professor of comparative anatomy at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris and director of the Concarneau marine laboratory. Specialist in comparative anatomy of fish and cetaceans. Friend of Flaubert, Maupassant, and Céard. Author of Pluralité des Races Humaines (1858). Participated in scientific expeditions to find the Nile sources (1856) and polar exploration from Svalbard and Jan Mayen (1892). Maupassant dedicated the short story La Mère sauvage to him in 1884. Very rare.
