Le Ménagier de Paris, treatise on morality and domestic economy composed around 1393 by a Parisian bourgeois. 1961 edition, 21 x 27 cm, produced by Chavane for the Friends of Crédit Lyonnais. Canvas tapestry box (slightly faded), prefaced by Pierre Gaxotte with translation into modern French by Jean-Paul Laurent, 88 pp. Second volume reproducing a trimmed version of Le Ménagier de Paris (around 120 pages). Includes reproduction of a map of Paris circa 1550 by O. Truschet and G. Hoyau. Written during the Hundred Years' War. Contents: moral precepts, historical facts, household management instructions, consumption information of the King, Princes and Paris at the end of the 14th century, gardening advice, horse selection guidance, extensive cookery treatise, and comprehensive hawking treatise.
