Menagier de Paris, treatise on morals and domestic economy composed circa 1393 by a Parisian bourgeois. 1961 edition, 21 x 27 cm, produced by Chavane for members of Crédit Lyonnais. Cloth-bound case (slightly faded), prefaced by Pierre Gaxotte, containing modern French translation by Jean-Paul Laurent, 88 pp., plus a second volume with an abridged version of the Ménagier de Paris (approximately 120 pages). Includes reproduction of a map of Paris circa 1550 by O. Truschet and G. Hoyau. Written during the Hundred Years' War. Contents: moral precepts, historical facts, instructions on household management, information on consumption of the King, Princes and Paris at the late 14th century, advice on gardening and horse selection, extensive culinary treatise, and comprehensive treatise on falcon hunting.Related Products
