Le Menagier de Paris, treatise on morality and domestic economy composed around 1393 by a Parisian bourgeois. 1961, 21 x 27 cm, limited edition reserved for the Amis du Crédit Lyonnais, produced by Chavane. Linen tapestry box (slightly faded), prefaced by Pierre Gaxotte, containing the modern French translation by Jean-Paul Laurent, 88 pp., and a second volume reproducing an abridged version of the Ménagier de Paris (approximately 120 pages). Includes a reproduction of a map of Paris circa 1550 by O. Truschet and G. Hoyau. Written during the Hundred Years' War, this work contains moral precepts, historical facts, instructions on household management, information on consumption by the King, Princes and Parisian society in the late 14th century, advice on gardening and horse selection, an extensive culinary treatise, and a comprehensive treatise on falcon hunting.
