A rare conjunction of learning and taste, devoid of any dogmatism. In essence, this book of books met three distinct needs. It drew on the triple expertise of the bookseller he had been, the bibliophile he remained throughout his life (with a predilection for fine bindings), the bibliographer and scholar whose paragon he remains.’ (Jacques Quentin, En français dans le texte, no. 281)
