Half-leather binding with spine defects and rubbed corners; minor foxing or stains on final leaves. First illustrated edition with eight full-page plates (on China paper mounted on strong paper), including an author portrait engraved by Ch. Geoffroy and numerous in-text illustrations by Midderigh. Introduction and biography by Alphonse Karr. Rather scarce.
