Inherited vast industrial interests including shipbuilding and oil production, plus an extraordinary art collection spanning XIVth to XIXth century European paintings. Enriched the family collection with modern and Russian paintings, including impressionist works rescued from Soviet museums. Resident of Villa Favorita on Lake Lugano (acquired 1932), housing over 2,500 paintings—considered the world's most important private collection after the English Royal Collection, dubbed 'the Swiss Louvre.'
