With vivid imagination and considerable excess, Du Laurens mocks Freemasons, Jesuits, ridiculous beliefs and manias, attacking both Philosophy and the abuses of Religion. The work achieved great notoriety as a scandal and was condemned as outrageous to public and religious morality.
