Liberté d'enseignement. Procès de M. l'abbé Combalot, preceded by introduction by Louis Veuillot, followed by historical documents. Paris, Univers office, March 1844. In-8°, XXVIII-146 pp., sewn binding (worn cover). Very rare. Memoir addressed to the bishops of France and heads of families regarding the war waged against the Church and society by the university monopoly, signed in the name of Abbé Combalot, apostolic missionary. Accused of extreme violence warranting legal prosecution for defamation and insult against the entire University of France and state-funded schools. Théodore Combalot (1797-1873), preacher, appeared before the Seine Assizes Court on March 6, 1844, condemned to 15 days imprisonment and 4,000 francs fine. The Univers newspaper appealed for public subscription to cover the fine. Original edition.
