Jean Pommerol: The Sieve, Paris, H. Simonis Empis, 1897, octavo, pinned, 291 pp. (damaged cover). A very rare copy with full margins, uncut, printed on laid van Gelder paper. The author (1859-1921) spent two years in the Sahara and provides a testament to the life of Bedouin women. He served as a Public Education Officer and contributed to the magazine Minerva in 1902, as well as several reports for Le Monde Illustré. Lucie Guenot, the author’s pseudonym, was the wife of Paul Bertrand and later of Commander Gabriel Farouel.
