Guillemé Brulon, Dorothée. The Service of the Princess of Asturias, or the history of a royal gift for the court of Madrid. Charles Massin, 2003. In-4°, full yellow publisher's cloth under illustrated color dust jacket, 229 pp. Nearly 200 color photos with detailed captions. Author's signed copy. In 1774, King Louis XV commissioned a porcelain service from the Sèvres manufactory intended for his granddaughter the Princess of Asturias. This royal gift reveals many unexpected facets: choice of model, number of pieces, collaboration of numerous painters (Castel, Chappuis, Buteux Jeune...). Also covers transport, diplomatic developments, successive orders of supplements until 1791, and porcelain copies from Buen Retiro. A fascinating study of a royal service. Fine copy.
