Composed of independent short chapters (anecdotes, portraits, reflections, brief narratives) evoking Paris during the French Revolution. Sequel to the twelve-volume Tableau de Paris (1782-1788). Mercier reworked newspaper articles written between 1789-1796, including his Annales patriotiques et littéraires. First edition: Paris, Fuchs booksellers, Charles Pougens and Charles-Frédéric Cramer. Preface dated 10 Frimaire Year VII (30 November 1798). Covers revolutionary events (Fête de la Fédération, trial of Louis XVI), institutions (Revolutionary Tribunal), portraits of figures (Bailly), political conflicts between Montagnards and Girondins, and autobiographical passages of Mercier's Convention service and 1793 captivity.
