He also worked for prominent private collectors such as Boyer-Fonfrède, Lucien Bonaparte, Marshal Berthier, and Count Schönborn. The historical painter is primarily a masterful draftsman, exploring classical sources for rarely illustrated episodes, with drawings reflecting a deep culture and study of antiquity, confirmed by the significance of his library and print collection.
