First edition, complete with folding map at end of volume 2. Condition: small crack at bottom of one joint, some foxing. Victor JACQUEMONT, who died in Bombay during a scientific mission, remains an endearing figure as traveler, scholar and man of the world. His correspondence, full of frankness, humor, skeptical spirit and benevolence, was not intended for publication. Considered the first modern account of India.
