RITTER (Georges). Manuscripts in Paintings of the School of Rouen. Norman Books of Hours. Rouen, Lesstringant; Paris, Picard, 1913. Large quarto, 60 pages with 81 illuminated plates (black and white). Paperback with minor wear to head. This collection documents the remarkable group of manuscripts executed in Rouen in the early 16th century for King Louis XII and his minister, Cardinal Georges d'Amboise, Archbishop of Rouen. Approximately sixty plates are reproduced from these volumes, with the most significant shown in full. The work continues with paintings adorning the cartulary of the Saint-Maclou church in Rouen, executed shortly thereafter. The collection concludes with a selection of Norman Books of Hours, most reflecting the artistic manner of the Rouen school.
