Full contemporary calf binding (boards nearly detached, minor corner wear, rubbed headcaps), detached but present frontispiece. François Gacon (1667–1725), a Lyon-born satirical poet, relentlessly attacked contemporary writers with coarse and biting wit. His satires earned him enemies, several months in prison, and even physical assaults. Gacon particularly targeted Bossuet and Boileau.
