Launched on April 2, 1843, by Jules Lovy and Auguste Commerson, it mixes humorous and whimsical articles on literary, artistic, and industrial novelties with advertisements. It had a circulation of 2,300 copies in 1850 and ceased publication on December 31, 1899, after 59 years and 2,672 issues, earning recognition as a precursor to Le Canard enchaîné.
