Missing: 54 complete text leaves. 78 illustrated plates featuring drawings by Cham, Gavarni, Durandin and others. Le Charivari was the first illustrated satirical daily newspaper in the world, founded December 1, 1832 by Charles Philipon as a republican opposition publication against the July Monarchy. Throughout its history, it alternated between radical, conservative, republican and anticlerical positions. Notable contributors included authors Taxile Delord and Agenor Altaroche, and renowned caricaturists such as Philipon, Nadar, Gustave Doré, Honoré Daumier, Henri Rochefort, Cham and Gavarni.
