Bronze medal, 50 mm diameter, 62 grams. First Prize awarded by Lycée de Vanves, 4th quarter of the academic year 1886, class of fourth form, for excellence in three consecutive compositions. Signed by sculptor Brenet. Commemorates Fernand Gregh (1873-1960), French poet and literary critic, son of composer Louis Gregh. Gregh studied at Michelet, Louis-le-Grand, and Condorcet schools alongside Marcel Proust. In 1890 he won first prize for French composition at the general competition. He founded the review 'Le Banquet' in 1892, publishing works by Proust, Daniel Halévy, and others. In 1902, he established the Humanist school to promote Hugolian and Lamartinian poetry traditions against Symbolism. Elected to the French Academy in 1953 at age 79. Married Harlette Hayem in 1903.
