Extensively illustrated with numerous black and white photographs integrated throughout text and as loose plates, plus color reproductions, some mounted, in and out of text. Color maps of literary pilgrimages in France. Each volume approximately 373-377 pages with preserved covers. Volume I features texts on Ronsard, Rabelais, Montaigne, Richelieu, Sully, Corneille, Loti, Hugo and other literary figures. Volume II covers Petrarch, Joinville, Brantôme, Montesquieu, Balzac, Maupassant, Courteline among others. Condition: worn edges on cases, minor rubbing at corners, one case with damaged cardboard face; one case missing; slight yellowing and external split (few cm) on spine of second volume; overall good condition for these substantial volumes. Cases show wear but remain serviceable.
