Description

Carsten-Peter Warncke's work in a sturdy hardcover with dust jacket, measuring 30.5 x 43.5 cm, contains 408 pages and is a splendid example of decorative arts. This richly illustrated book features 216 hand-colored copper engravings, showcasing applied arts in Europe from the 9th to the 16th century, including furniture, silverware, jewelry, tapestries, and book covers. Influencing the establishment of several prominent museums of applied arts, it reflects a renewed interest in medieval and Renaissance art. Editors Jakob Heinrich von Hefner-Alteneck and Carl Becker selected masterpieces from public and private collections. Published between 1852 and 1863, it is considered a treasured addition to any collector's library.
