Description

Autograph letter from André RIVOIRE (1872-1930), French poet and dramatist born in Vienne (Isère), to Fernand GREGH (1873-1949), poet and founder of the literary journal Le Banquet. RIVOIRE, student of Henri Bergson, published intimate poetry including Les Vierges (1895) and Le Songe de l'Amour (1900), and wrote eighteen dramatic works of delicate observation and psychological insight, including Le Bon Roi Dagobert (1908). He received the Archon-Despérouses Prize (1900) and was decorated as Knight of the Legion of Honor (1908), promoted Officer (1919), and Commander (1927). GREGH, son of composer Louis GREGH, co-studied with Marcel Proust at Condorcet and became renowned at age twenty-two. He founded Le Banquet literary review in 1896, to which Proust, Robert de Flers, Léon Blum and Henri Barbusse contributed, and served as chief editor of Revue de Paris until 1909. Both were prominent figures in French literary circles of the Belle Époque and early 20th century.
