Rare first-year and second-year first half (Dec 1832–Jun 1833) of the pioneering French daily satirical newspaper. Half-leather binding with rubbed edges, 24×31 cm. Features 211 issues, including a specimen page explaining the daily publishing format. Missing lithographs for issues 31, 38, 41, 43, 45, 49, 55, 58, 61, 65, 67, 71, 74, 78, 80, 82, 85, 88, 100, 103, 108, 115, 119, 120, 130, 137, 140, 141, 144, 157, 170, 173, 174, 180, 181, 182, 183, 184, 186, 187, 189, 190, 193, 194, 195, 196, 200, 202, 203, 204, 211, 212. Light foxing, minor marginal tears, partial loss on two lithographs (one in color). Each issue bears the 'Timbre Royal' stamp and postal folds. Founded by Charles Philipon as a republican opposition newspaper, it evolved into a satirical daily with contributions from Taxile Delord, Agénor Altaroche, Nadar, Gustave Doré, Honoré Daumier, Henri Rochefort, Cham, and Gavarni.
