LE CHARIVARI. Half-leather binding, worn edges, 24 x 31 cm, from December 1, 1832 to June 30, 1833, 211 issues. The first page includes a specimen announcing the daily printing style of the paper, with some cut sheets (but no missing leaves), and missing the lithograph leaf from issues 31, 38, 41, etc. Various stains and slight tears in margins, a partial loss on 2 lithographs, one in color. Each issue features the 'Timbre Royal' stamp, with postal folds. Le Charivari was the first illustrated satirical daily in the world, founded on December 1, 1832, by Charles Philipon as an opposition newspaper to the July monarchy, notable for its radical, conservative, republican, or anti-clerical stance throughout its history. Notable authors include Taxile Delord, Agénor Altaroche, and prominent caricaturists like Philipon, Nadar, and Daumier.
