Contains 78 out-of-text plates with drawings by Cham, Gavarni, Durandin, and others. The Charivari was the first illustrated daily satirical newspaper in the world (1832-1937), founded by Charles Philipon as republican opposition to the July Monarchy. Notable contributors included Taxile Delord, Agenor Altaroche, Philipon, Nadar, Gustave Doré, Honoré Daumier, Henri Rochefort, Cham, and Gavarni.
