Autographed manuscript letter signed by Gabriel de LAUTREC (1867-1938), French novelist, poet, translator and humorist. Cousin of painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, he was a disciple of Alphonse Allais. Appearing in Paris in 1889 as an elegant dandy with monocle and cigar, he taught at a Parisian lycée while frequenting the literary brasseries of the Latin Quarter. He met ALLAIS at the Chat Noir cabaret in Montmartre. His collection Poèmes en prose (1898) opened doors to literary Paris. He held a salon in Passy where he received Jean Lorrain, Willy, Jean de Tinan, Alfred Jarry, Oscar Wilde and Paul Verlaine. Co-founder in 1930 of the Académie de l'humour with Curnonsky and Courteline. Unsuccessful Academy candidate (1923), he received the Legion of Honor in 1936.
