Czech poet and photographer Jindřich Heisler (1914–1953) joined the Czech Surrealist Group in 1938, just as Nazi occupation forced the movement underground. He published his first poetry book the following year. Despite his brief career—he died at 38—Heisler created some of the most striking assemblage works of the Surrealist movement.
