This splendid volume showcases treasure rooms from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, presenting a millennium of applied arts in Europe. Published between 1852-63, it is rich with 216 hand-colored copper engravings, depicting furniture, goldsmithing, jewelry, tapestries, and book covers. It includes notable pieces such as Matthias Corvin's golden cup and a lost ceremonial sword. The publication was directed by Jakob Heinrich von Hefner-Alteneck, a significant figure in promoting studies of past masterpieces, with contributions by Carl Becker, who commissioned reproductions from various artists.
