Description

Louis Reynaud (1876-1946). Le romantisme, ses origines anglo-germaniques: Influences étrangères et traditions nationales, le réveil du Génie français. Paris: Librairie Armand Colin, 103 Boulevard Saint-Michel, 1926. VIII & 288 pages, 8 black plates outside text, including Biron's portrait as frontispiece. In-8°. Softbound, publisher's illustrated cover (worn cover, split spine). Original edition. The author, Professor at the Faculty of Letters in Clermont-Ferrand, examines notably Schlegel's "Cours de littérature dramatique" taught in Berlin 1802-1804, then Vienna 1808, before an audience including Mme de Staël. The work traces ideas present in "Cromwell"'s preface, which greatly influenced French romanticism.
