Maurice Bedel, born on December 30, 1883 in Paris and died on October 15, 1954 at La Genauraye in Thuré (Vienne), was a French writer, essayist and journalist.
Doctor of medicine, Maurice Bedel's thesis is devoted to periodic obsessions and turns toward psychiatry.
Maurice Bedel practiced his medical profession during the four years of the First World War, in the 170e régiment d'infanterie as chief medical officer.
He publishes his first poems under the pseudonym Gabriel Senlis: Le Cahier de Phane. Crowned with the Prix Goncourt in 1927 for his first novel Jérôme 60° latitude nord, he was elected in 1948 president of the Société des gens de lettres.
