A 17th-century Christian pedagogical work by Philippe d'Outreman, newly adapted into refined French at the request of clergy. Contains three parts on Christian perfection: abstaining from sin, doing good, avoiding evil, and enduring suffering with patience. Enriched with modern examples, parables, and historical illustrations. Published in Lyon by Jean Certe in 1681. Two volumes bound as one large quarto (18 x 24 cm), full leather binding with worn corners, lacking headcap and one endpaper. First volume: (8) ff., 461 pp.; second volume: missing title page, 488 pp., (40) ff. Covers topics such as Christian duties, mortal and venial sins, sins of thought and speech, parental duties, the seven deadly sins, remedies against sin, sacraments, indulgences, purgatory, and the seven virtues opposing the seven sins.
