First published posthumously in 1634, this 1608 Latin novel by Johannes Kepler blends astronomy and fantasy. It follows Duracotus, an Icelandic astronomy enthusiast whose mother introduces him to demons, one of whom reveals the existence of the remote lunar island of Levania. Often regarded as one of the earliest works of science fiction, the book also serves as a vehicle for Kepler’s scientific insights about the Moon.
