Bound in paperback, lacking the final cover, spine split, worn copy, 334 pages. The Comte de Montlosier (1755–1838) was successively a deputy of the nobility of the Auvergne sénéchaussée at the Estates-General and the National Assembly until 1791, where he became a staunch advocate of monarchy and feudal institutions. Having emigrated at that time, he returned to France around 1800. He then pursued a career as a publicist, professor of jurisprudence at the University of Paris, attaché to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Napoleon’s political correspondent during his campaigns, a naturalist on the imperial treasury’s payroll, and a Peer of France after the 1830 Revolution (Querard).
