“The history of the Navy troops is intertwined with that of New France. However, it still remains little known to the general public, but also to specialists. Seven Quebec and French authors present high-quality historical essays on the administrative, socio-cultural, military and socio-demographic history of the officers of the Navy troops who served in Canada from 1683, the date of the decision to send these units to North America, to 1760, the disastrous year of the military capitulation of the Canadian colony. In addition, the socio-demographic data presented in this work are for the most part unpublished since they are the result of research carried out for the project. Marcel Fournier and his collaborators explore new avenues on the presence and the role played by the officers of the Navy troops in the conquest of a continent in the name of the King of France.
