These letters, largely composed by Caraccioli himself, aim to give Clement XIV a philosophical portrait which suits the eyes of « enlightened » opinion to his role in the affair of the suppression of the Jesuits. The collection deceived no one: it was considered apocryphal upon its publication. The letters address very varied subjects, Italy, piety, natural sciences, solitude, etc.
